Andrea Nuciforo is a candidate for the United States House of Representatives in Massachusetts first district.

He was born and raised in Pittsfield, Mass. He is the second child in a family of five. His father was of Italian descent, and his mother’s family is from Poland.

Nuciforo graduated from the Pittsfield public schools and earned a B.A. in English from University of Massachusetts-Amherst in 1986. He holds a law degree from Boston University and an MBA from the Stern School at New York University.

His wife Elena is a native of Russia, and a graduate student in the Communications Department at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. They have a son Eric, born Jan. 24, 2011.

After law school, Nuciforo worked as a law clerk at the United State District Court in Springfield, Mass. From 1997-2007 he served in the State Senate, where he was a chairman of the committee on Financial Services.

Nuciforo participates in outdoor sports, including skiing, hiking and mountain biking. He especially likes hiking in the Mt. Greylock State Reservation, and on the Massachusetts portions of the Appalachian Trail. He has played men’s ice hockey for years throughout western Massachusetts.
