BOSTON (AP) -- Tom Tierney has won the three-way Republican primary in the 5th Congressional District and will challenge longtime Democratic U.S. Rep. Ed Markey in November.
The new district includes northern and western suburbs of Boston.
Markey, who has been in office since 1976, is the dean of the Massachusetts congressional delegation. He's the ranking Democrat on the House natural resources committee. He's also a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
Tierney is a consulting actuary.
