BOSTON (AP) -- The Cipollini brothers could once again be opponents in a race for a seat on the Governor's Council.

Charles Cipollini, of Fall River, currently serves on the eight-member council. He was unopposed in Thursday's Republican primary in the 1st District.

Unofficial returns show younger brother Oliver Cipollini Jr., of Barnstable, clinging to a slim lead over two other candidates in the Democratic primary.

The brothers faced off in the 2010 general election, with Charles narrowly winning. But they insist this is not a family feud or case of sibling rivalry.

Instead, the Cipollinis say they're best friends who share the same values, and that they both run to improve the chances that one of them will end up winning the seat.

The council's duties include voting on judicial nominations.
