Drafted by TB in the 23rd round in 2002 out of Madras (OR) High School (did not sign)...Hit .430 with 3 homers and 20 RBI his senior year, earning league Co-Player of the Year honors...Attended Oregon State University...Hit .365 (236-for-646) with 60 steals, 37 doubles, 16 homers and 101 RBI in 160 games over 3 seasons with the Beavers...Posted a .464 on-base percentage, .522 slugging percentage and .990 fielding percentage, committing only 4 errors in 387 total chances...Holds the Oregon State record with 168 career runs scored and his 99 hits in 2005 are the most in a single season in Beavers history...As a sophomore in 2004, hit .352 in 49 games and was selected to the All-Pac-10 First Team and Baseball America's Mid-Season Sophomore All-America Team, and received 2004 Pac-10 All-Academic Honorable Mention...Garnered 2005 Pac-10 Co-Player of the Year honors, and was named to the 2005 Louisville Slugger All-America Second Team and the College Baseball Foundation's National Honors Team...Also received 2005 Pac-10 All- Academic honorable mention...Competed for Falmouth of the Cape Cod League in 2004...Is believed to be the 1st Native American of Navajo descent to play in the Major Leagues...Hometown of Madras, OR had a parade in his honor in November 2007.
