TVs get 'Gronked' for chance to win Pats tickets

BRIGHTON, Mass. -- As the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens get set to fight for a spot in the Super Bowl, some fans are fighting for a spot inside Gillette Stadium for Sunday’s game -- on Thursday they had to put up some expensive collateral to do it.
Three customers from the Sports Hub’s “Toucher and Rich” morning show were willing to risk their flat screen television sets for a chance to get seats to this weekend’s game.
“I was pretty nervous, but winning the tickets would be worth it, so I had no problem risking it,” said Shawn Marshall, who won the Patriots tickets.
Each contestant had to answer Patriots trivia questions, which a chance to get only one wrong before their TV was “Gronked” off the top of a 2.5 story building.
The first to go was Scott Mara.
“The microphone was in your face and everything was coming so fast and it’s cold out -- I froze. Kind of embarrassing to be the first guy to lose his TV,” said Mara.
John Rey saw his 61-inch flat screen smash to the concrete.
“I knew the TV was going to die because I realized I didn’t know the answer to [the question],” said Rey.
The winner was Marshall, who guessed at which Patriots OL was nicknamed “Hawg.” His lucky guess won him two tickets.
The losers didn’t walk away empty handed -- each was given a new flat screen TV so they can still watch the game.
“I’d rather have the tickets,” Rey said. “But this is a nice consolation prize.”
