Beanpot tourney celebrating 60th anniversary

BOSTON -- It's almost time to decide who is the "Best of Boston" in college hockey.

The annual Beanpot celebrates its 60th year when the annual tournament opens Monday night at the TD Garden. Harvard, Northeastern, Boston University, and Boston College will all once again be skating for the coveted trophy one more time.

Harvard plays Boston University, followed by Boston College against Northeastern. The winners advance to the championship game a week later.

BC is the defending champion, beating Northeastern 7-6 in overtime last year for the Eagles' third Beanpot trophy in four years. The only school keeping BC from a four-year streak is BU, which beat Northeastern 5-2 for the 2009 championship -- the Terriers' 29th in the tournament's history.
