Seguin chose right time to score, B's force Game 7

BOSTON (WHDH) -- The Boston Bruins are back in Boston and on Wednesday they’ll defend the Stanley Cup after forcing a Game 7 in overtime Sunday afternoon.

The Bruins defeated the Washington Capitals, 4-3, after an overtime goal by Tyler Seguin -- who had been scoreless in the playoffs prior to Sunday’s game.

If there is any team that’s used to being in the do-or-die position it’s the Bruins -- they played three such games during last year’s Stanley-Cup-winning playoff run.

Seguin ended Game 6 in dramatic fashion -- because the alternative wasn’t a pleasant one.

The game-winning play began when David Krejci intercepted a pass by Nicklas Backstrom and sent the puck up to Milan Lucic, who passed to Seguin. Seguin veered to the right, slightly, and drew Braden Holtby from the net. He then lifted a shot past the rookie netminder.

“It’s exciting because it was either that or we’d be here today packing our bags and going home, and I don’t think anybody’s ready for that right now,” said Bruins coach Claude Julien.

“When you’re a little kid, that’s the dream, to get those big goals and keep your team alive,” said Seguin after Game 6. “I think looking back at my career so far, this is probably one of the biggest goals I’ve gotten.”

The 20-year-old forward has earned plenty of praise from his veteran teammates.

“When guys as talented as he is offensively to make the defensive play that he did, it’s a great thing and that’s what makes this team special,” said Brian Rolston.

Seguin’s performance paved the way for an equally special moment -- another Game 7.

“Yeah you’re confident and the nerves are there, but that’s all part of Game 7’s. Anything can happen and that’s what makes it exciting,” said Chris Kelly.

“All we did [Sunday] was tie the series. We didn’t win it. And there’s still another game to be played before we can be happy with it, and we gotta make sure we take care of Game 7,” said Julien.

The Bruins will host the Capitals for Game 7 on Wednesday night.
