UNDATED (WHDH) -- A young boy's fun trip to the ballpark took a sudden sour turn.
It started when a Texas Rangers pitcher tossed a ball in Cameron Shores' direction -- but when it didn't land in his hands, he broke out in tears. But it got worse for the boy.
Those fans who snatched the ball -- seemingly unaware of the screaming child -- started posing with their new souvenir.
But minutes later, a toss led to a smile. An aware player threw Cameron another ball.
"Look at the grin and look at the greedy people next to him -- just oblivious, 'let's make out while he has the ball…we've got our ball,’ At least the kid's got a nice smile on face now," the announcer said.
And to show there's no hard feelings…
"Now they're comparing baseballs -- all is well,” the announcer said.
Cameron's parents didn't expect much to come of the incident, but later learned it had sparked a debate online among baseball fans across the country: Should the couple who caught the ball have given it to the little boy?
They say the couple actually offered to give Cameron the ball, but they declined -- saying they wanted their son to know he couldn't always have whatever he wanted.
“He’s three, so we’re kind of at that stage where he thinks he gets anything and everything,” Cameron’s mother, Crystal Shores, said. “So we’re trying to teach him, sometimes you don’t get what you want and you just move on and learn from it and keep going.”
