Ruud Van Nistelrooy retires from soccer

MALAGA, Spain (AP) -- Former Manchester United and Real Madrid forward Ruud Van Nistelrooy has retired from soccer.

The 35-year-old Dutchman, who played this season for Malaga in the Spanish league, says "yesterday I played my last game as a professional."

Van Nistelrooy won a Premier League title with Manchester United, two Spanish league titles with Madrid and two Dutch league titles with PSV Eindhoven.

He scored four goals in limited action this season to help Malaga finish in fourth place and earn its first Champions League berth.

He also played for Hamburg in Germany.
