HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (WSVN) -- Miami Heat's Dwayne Wade surprised a Hallandale Beach family Friday when he delivered an unexpected Christmas gift in the form of a home makeover.
The NBA All-Star personally knocked on homeowner Welline Lubin's temporary Hollywood home to deliver thousands of dollars in supplies and furniture.
During the season of giving, Wade is doing just that. "It's cool to show up in an unexpected place and getting a reaction, but what we leave behind is going to be more fulfilling than us knocking on the door," he said.
Earlier this month, an electrical fire claimed most of the contents in Lubin's Hallandale Beach apartment, forcing her to relocate her family to a temporary location in Hollywood. "It was really unfortunate what happened," Wade said.
Lubin expressed her gratitude at this desperately-needed domestic upgrade. "This is great. I love everything they've given me, and I thank everybody for everything they did," she said.
This act of kindness is part of Three Under the Three, an assistance program underwritten by Wade's World Foundation. According to Wade's organization, which was founded in 2003, every holiday season it "grants three wishes to youth and/or families in need throughout the South Florida community."
"Even though this is a temporary situation for them, let us create normalcy as much as possible," said Wade's World Foundation's Tragil Wade, who joined the player during his surprise visit.
Over the past six years, Wade's Family Foundation has contributed one million dollars to underserved and underprivileged communities, assisting over 8,000 individuals in 2011 alone.
