Bruins re-sign D Ward

BOSTON -- The Boston Bruins have re-signed veteran defenseman Aaron Ward to a multiyear contract extension.

Ward, 35, had five goals and eight assists in 65 regular-season games for the Bruins last year, as well as one assist in six playoff games. He has 40 goals and 88 assists in a 13-year career with five teams.

Ward was drafted fifth overall in the 1991 NHL Draft by the Winnipeg Jets. He was traded to Detroit in June 1993, and played on two Red Wings Stanley Cup championship teams.

He was traded to Carolina in July 2001 where he won his third Stanley Cup. He also played for the New York Rangers before being traded to the Bruins in February 2007.

The team did not disclose terms of the deal.
