BOSTON (WHDH) -- Tim Thomas is a fan favorite, known for his key saves when the Bruins need him the most.
Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli confirmed Friday that Thomas, 38, went to the team saying he is seriously considering taking a year off. Chiarelli said at this point the team is preparing as if the two-time Vezina Trophy winner will not be in between the pipes come the fall.
Fans are disappointed that Thomas may be moving on, but many of them were just as ready to move on themselves. They cited two reasons: The political controversy over skipping the White House visit after winning the Stanley Cup and the Bruins backup netminder, Tuukka Rask, has proved his ability numerous times between the pipes.
“It kind of bums me out the White House thing, I don’t really know what’s going on with him…I think he should go one more year, give it another run,” said one fan.
“They’ve got Tuukka Rask waiting in the wings. He’s been waiting for his chance and I’d say if you’re going to sit out, your choice I guess,” said one fan.
“[Thomas] is a stubborn guy…not going to hold well for the fans,” said one man. “I’ve been here for a long time and I wish him the best.”
What do you think about Thomas possibly not being in the net next season?
