Protests against new rule for 2014 Sochi Olympics
MOSCOW, RUSSIA (WHDH) -- A new law in Russia has some people there calling for a boycott of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
The law is vague but makes it illegal to spread information about non-traditional sexual behavior to minors. The law is viewed as anti-gay, but President Obama said a boycott is going too far.
"I want to just make very clear right now I do not think it's appropriate to boycott the Olympics. We've got a bunch of Americans out there who are training hard, who are doing everything they can to succeed,” said President Obama.
There have been arrests and protests against the law. Among others, four Dutch filmmakers who had interviewed a teenager about the gay community were taken into custody.
