Olympic hopefuls practice at TD Garden
BOSTON (WHDH) -- Some of the world's best figure skaters are getting ready to hit the ice over at the td garden. A few of the competitors for this year's U.S. Figure Skating Nationals took to the ice recently to practice and see what The Garden has to offer.
“I'm always nervous. I mean, I think that's why I skate. I like the adrenaline and I have a reason to wake up and get going every morning,” 2013 U.S. men’s silver medalist Ross Miner said.
Team USA will be announced at the TD Garden with the winners going off to Sochi to represent the United States in the 2014 Winter Olympics.
Boston natives Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir won gold in this year's championship run; they are the first pairs champions from Boston in more than half a century.
Miner is also a local man. As a Watertown resident he was inspired by Boston Strong when he created his routine.
Also looking for that hometown advantage is Harvard University student Christina Gao who said she's fully expecting all her friends and family here to cheer her on in January.
“There's so much pride in the city, and it's a big city so I know there will be a lot of people here watching. The energy is going to be great, and it's just exciting more than anything,” Gao said.
Tickets for the U.S. Figure Skating Nationals in January went on sale Friday. The nationals are the final shot for skaters to make America’s Olympic team.
The 2014 Olympic Games will take place in February and they will be aired only on 7NBC.
