Menino hosts local sendoff for Olympic fencer

BOSTON (WHDH) -- Boston Mayor Tom Menino was on guard Thursday in Boston’s Back Bay, fencing with Olympic silver medalist Tim Morehouse.

This was a sendoff ceremony for Morehouse as he leaves to represent the US in the London Olympic Games.

Fans got to take pictures with him and even hold his silver medal.

Mayor Menino gave him some extra incentive to bring home the gold:

“I tell you Tim, you win the gold medal, I’ll have a party for you in the city of Boston, at City Hall Plaza,” Menino said.

The Brandeis alum will represent the US this summer in London, his third Olympic games.
