NEEDHAM, Mass. (WHDH) -- Aly Raisman took a huge leap into the spotlight with Sunday’s stunning performance, but to her friends and neighbors at home in the Bay State she’s been a shining star for a long time.
At a watch party in Falmouth, the room erupted with cheers as Raisman stunned the entire world.
“We are so proud of Aly. We can’t imagine how her parents feel. We watched Lynn and Rick on television tonight and you could see them squirming in their seats… But it was amazing. Aly was awesome, we knew she could do it and we’re so excited to watch her again,” said Patty Cloherty, Raisman’s neighbor.
Raisman’s neighbors next to her Cape house in Falmouth had a big party Sunday night. They made signs, t-shirts and hats to support Raisman.
In Raisman’s hometown of Needham, everyone was buzzing about her performance and quest for the gold.
“It’s exciting! It’s exciting for her when she comes home and to hopefully have a parade or some type of celebration. No matter how well she does, the accomplishment of being there is just phenomenal,” said David Koplan, a Needham resident.
Her hometown, all of New England, and now the entire country is pulling for Raisman.
Raisman will be back on the mats Tuesday for the team final.
