Aly Raisman was born May 25, 1994 in Needham, Mass. She began gymnastics as a toddler in 1996 when she was put in a "Mommy and Me" class by her mother. Raisman is coached by Mihai Brestyan, with the floor as her favorite event. Aly is one of the best tumblers in the world, able to do a back one and a half twist to Arabian double front, punch front, an Arabian double pike, and a triple full. Raisman attended Needham High School until her junior year, and is completing her senior year online so she can pay attention to her training for the 2012 Olympics. 2011 was a fruitful year for Raisman, as she won the 2011 CoverGirl Classic and earned the bronze medal for the all-around at the 2011 U.S. Senior National Championships.
