The Raven's Nest changing its name for Sunday's game
WALPOLE, Mass. -- There's no question this weekend's matchup in Foxboro is a big game…but is it big enough to change a name? One local business says absolutely.
If you walk into one Walpole bar you can figure out the name. Ravens are everywhere, homage to Edgar Allan Poe…but so “uncool” for Sunday's game.
“It’s not a good thing to be sitting in the Raven's nest when you’re watching the Patriots play the Ravens,” said Paul Keating, a Patriots fan.
“We probably wouldn't have come here to watch the game,” said one Patriots fan.
The owners, who are big Patriots fans, made a big decision.
“I woke up halfway through the night and decided to - just for a joke - to change the name of the restaurant,” said Mark McAuliffe, Raven’s Nest owner.
They found an old banner and went through a box of sharpies to make a new sign.
“Got up there on the roof in the bitter cold winds yesterday and hung it up,” said Maura McAuliffe, Raven’s Nest owner.
So, the Raven's Nest is now the Patriots’ Nest.
“I think it's kind of cute. I think it's fun,” said one woman.
As you heard, the owners didn't want this to be mistaken as a bar for Ravens fans. But what if some of them happen to walk in?
“We have a TV on the deck where it's 20 degrees we put them out there,” Mark McAuliffe said.
Well, there are still a lot of Ravens inside the bar; just the cold, dead, stuffed kind.
And now the Pats have an extra sign of luck from a bar that will be packed with fans.
“I think Sunday should be a lot of fun in here,” said one woman.
And if the Pats advance to the Superbowl, the McAuliffe's will keep the banner up.
