Superstitious Pats fans prepare for Super Bowl
FOXBORO, Mass. -- The fans are as hungry for another Super Bowl win as the Patriots players. So when it comes to superstitions, the fans aren’t taking any chance.
Who could forget Bill Belichick's red hooded sweatshirt in the Patriots’ Super Bowl XLII loss? It was a break from tradition that disappointed fans who believe in superstition.
But as Super Bowl XLVI approaches, superstitious fans aren't holding back with their traditions and obsessions.
For some fans, it's the food they eat during the game that brings the Patriots luck.
“We always make chili,” said one woman.
“Kielbasa,” another woman said. “I’ve always done it. It’s just a tradition I guess.”
For others, it's what they wear.
“Well, I have to wear my Gronk jersey. I’m a huge Gronk fan,” said Alice Barr, a Patriots fan.
“I wear the same New England Patriots shirt, and a pair of red socks ever game,” said Judy McDermott.
Some believe where the Patriots stand in a game depends on where they sit.
“I got my favorite recliner. Got my NFL football, and that’s about it,” said Ray Dunbar.
“I sit in the back room and watch the game. My wife sits in the kitchen and doesn’t watch the game. She feels she’s a jinx, if she watches the game she’s going to jinx the game,” said Perry Verge.
Some fans believe they can bring the Patriots luck by “Gronking” with Gronkowski.
“It’s just like a little bear that has the Patriots logo on the back of it. My dad spikes it when they score,” said Alice Barr.
Other fans said they won’t be following any superstitions during Super Bowl on Sunday. They believe the Patriots will be making their own luck.
