FOXBORO, Mass. (WHDH) -- Patriots fans reacted to the news that former Patriots linebacker Junior Seau took his own life on Wednesday.

“Oh my gosh. That’s awful, very sad. I mean, he was a big part of the whole team. That’s a sad thing to hear,” said Rosemary Doherty.

Pats fans are accustomed to success in the NFL, and they say Number 55 was a big part of that.

“I just remember an excitement and talent, and I thought he loved life and loved the game. Who knows,” said Lorraine Baldassari.

“It’s heartbreaking to see that sort of thing, somebody that still had a life ahead of them,” said Carol Frost.

And Fans couldn’t help but think back to that 2010 incident when Seau drove off a cliff in California. He denied it was a suicide attempt saying instead that he had fallen asleep.

“Obviously there was something going on in his life that led him to do this…Just because you have a great career and great fame doesn’t mean that you’re not going to do something like that,” said Kathy Ferraro.
