FOXBORO, Mass. (WHDH) -- Despite his explanation, Bill Belichick's fine is the largest one handed out to a coach this season. But his frustration was clearly shared by most of Patriots Nation.
The word is out; coach Bill Belichick received a hefty fine for grabbing one of the replacement referees by the arm Sunday night.
The NFL fined Belichick $50,000 on Wednesday. Some fans say the fine is unwarranted.
“Absolutely shouldn’t have happened. Bill’s an awesome guy. He just wanted to get the guy’s attention and I don’t think he should have been fined at all,” said Tanya Walsh, a Patriots fan.
“I wish he didn't have to pay the fine. I’m sure it's what the league has to do, but I would have wanted the play reviewed myself,” said Taryn Lieberman.
A last-minute field goal in the Patriots game left the clearly-frustrated Belichick looking for answers.
“Just trying to concentrate on getting our team ready to play Buffalo,” Belichick said in a press conference.
And a last-minute interception in the Packers, Seahawks game was ruled a touchdown for Seattle.
Coaches can't speak their minds, but Patriots fans can -- and they say enough is enough.
“We expect to see a game played by the players on the field and decided by the players and not replacement referees throwing yellow flags unwarranted,” said Gerry Lussier, a Patriots fan from Kentucky.
