FOXBORO, Mass. (WHDH) -- A New England Patriots player turns stunt man, and it was all caught on camera.
Wide receiver Brandon Lloyd may not leap tall buildings with a single bound, but he seems to be able to leap Smart Cars -- or can he?
“There’s some camera tricks involved,” said Lloyd.
Lloyd did a promotional stunt for MobiSquad, a company that features purple Smart Cars in its promotions, over the summer -- before the season began.
The company’s CEO told 7News via Skype that it was all Lloyd’s idea.
“If it was completely fake I think it would be pretty apparent in the video. It’s the guy’s job to jump that high,” said Nate Reis, CEO of MobiSquad.
Reis said there was no green screen involved, but he admits the camera crew’s expertise played a role in how realistic the stunt looks.
Jake Perry, 15, said the jump is clearly a fake.
“No way,” said Perry. “[I would] definitely not [try it].”
But some other kids have tried it, after seeing a similar promotional video for Nike featuring basketball star Kobe Bryant jumping over a speeding Aston Martin.
A 5-foot, 5-inch tall 19 year old in Florida was seriously injured when he tried the stunt for real -- a tragedy Lloyd averted, probably by jumping near the car, but not over it.
