FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WHDH) -- A lot of New England Patriots have become household names, but one high profile fane just can’t seem to get all those names right.
Boston Mayor Thomas Menino mangled the names of Patriots players Vince Wilfork and tight end Rob Gronkowski.
Menino might want to start with someone easier like Chandler Jones. Other players admit they could be the mayor’s next victim, like lineman Markus Zusevics -- who is used to having his name pronounced incorrectly.
Of course, mangling sports names is nothing new for Menino. In the past he has called Boston Celtics stars Kevin Garnett and Rajon Rondo KJ and Hondo. Or when he told sports fans at the Bobby Orr statue dedication how Varitek split the uprights for the Patriots.
So what if Stephen Gostowski kicks the winning field goal this weekend?
“My name has been butchered pretty bad throughout the years,” said Gostowski. “[Menino] can call me whatever he wants to.”
Menino does own up to his mistakes. On Thursday he tweeted “How could we have a championship season in New England without some new #Meninoisms?”
