Red Sox offer concession deals for April
BOSTON (WHDH) -- They can’t promise wins, but the Boston Red Sox are trying to win over fans as the season approaches.
After a last-place finish in the division last season, disappointed fans might not fill Fenway Park -- at least not early in the year -- which will likely end the record home-sellout streak.
“Yeah I think it’s going to end but it’s amazing. It’s gone on for almost 10 years and all good things must come to an end,” said Red Sox President Larry Lucchino.
The team is offering discounts on Fenway Franks, drinks and kids meals to lure people to the ballpark in April. Lucchino said this April promotion doesn’t mean they’re desperate for support.
“It’s both a thank you for their loyalty and support we’ve had over 11 years, but it’s also a ‘Come on out, get to know these players, get to know this team, remember the fun of the ballpark,’” said Lucchino.
So here’s the deal -- for April:
-- For $5 you’ll get two Fenway Franks -- a two-for-one deal
-- A 12-ounce draft beer will be $5, instead of $7.50
-- Hot chocolate is only $2
-- And something parents will appreciate: Children under 14 eat for free at specially-designated concession stands.
Fans 7News spoke with said these deals would go a long way.
“It wouldn’t be the reason I would come, but it certainly would make it more affordable to bring a family,” said one fan.
Some fans love the idea of discounted drinks. Others said they’ll be coming to Fenway no matter the cost.
The home opener is April 8. There are 17 home games in the month of April. Single-game tickets are still available for every home game in April.
