Red Sox fans react to Bradley Jr. joining roster
BOSTON (WHDH) -- The start of a new season gives even the most cynical fans a reason to be hopeful. If last feeling left them feeling disappointed, fresh faces can only help and many are putting their hopes on Jackie Bradley Jr.
“They did so bad last season. That’s gotta be motivation to do good this season,” said Francis Caulfield.
After last year's last place finish in the division, Red Sox fans are keeping their expectations in check.
“I hope they don't cost me anymore money than they did last year. I’m a season ticket holder. Things did not go well,” said Richard Tourangeau.
But with a new season ahead and a chance for a fresh start, faithful fans say they have a reason to feel hopeful: rookie outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr.
“I’ve read he's a promising rookie. I’m looking forward to seeing him,” said Michael Howitt.
“I think it'll depend on his performance but I think people are really excited about it so that'll be good,” said Lauren Mullett.
Bradley is set to start in the season opener against the Yankees. Red Sox fans say his debut as an official member of the team could be the first sign of good changes ahead.
“Fenway Park is steeped in tradition but with that we have to spark up a new generation of fans. Just get everybody committed and get going so I think it's a good decision,” said Elijah Harris.
Now they're hoping the promising new face will bring some excitement back to America’s most beloved ballpark.
“We did pretty bad last year so anything could help. Whatever works, but I got a good feeling about them this year,” said Steven Araiza.
Fenway hopes the fresh faces will help boost ticket sales this season.
