Red Sox fans win tickets in Big Head Blitz giveaway
BOSTON (WHDH) -- The Big Head Blitz hit the streets of the Boston Thursday featuring cardboard cutouts of each player on the Red Sox roster.
It’s part of a promotion ahead of next week's home opener. Finding a player's big picture could mean a ticket to Fenway.
Several lucky fans outside Boston Public Library spotted the larger than life Red Sox big heads, and many ended up dancing with them.
For this promotion, Sox fans could win tickets, autographed jerseys or baseballs -- but first they had to answer some questions.
One fan asked who one of the big heads was, and she answered correctly, “Will Middlebrooks.”
For that answer, the fan won Will Middlebrooks’ autographed jersey. But how did she know the big heads would be here?
“It was on Twitter, everything is on Twitter it just popped right up, so I was like, ‘Oh, I work down there.’ So I figured I’d just kind of hang out right before work and it paid off, so it's great,” said Alex Ramsey, a Sox fan.
Down at the Hatch Shell, one Sox fan had to name nine players on this year’s roster. After struggling a little, he hit it out of the park.
“It's a new line up and I was really drawing a blank, yeah, a lot of new faces, I’m glad to see it this year,” said Jarrod Rasalas.
A family from San Diego won tickets after posting a picture with Joel Hanrahan's big head on Facebook.
“This is awesome. We're not from town, we're here visiting for a couple months, and we've been talking about going to a Red Sox game, and it's great,” said Andrew Gordon, visiting from San Diego.
Red Sox organizers admit social media tipped many off to where the big heads appeared in town.
“We’ve had a lot of crowds, we're trying to be sneaky and get out here and surprise people,” said Meghan Ryan, Red Sox marketing.
The promotion ended Thursday afternoon.
