Fenway sellout streak ends at 794 games
BOSTON (WHDH) -- If you’re looking to see the Boston Red Sox you’re in luck. The team’s sellout streak was snapped Wednesday.
For the first time since May 14, 2003 the Sox will fail to sell out a home game.
The sellout streak at Fenway Park reached 794 games -- 820 if you count the postseason. That’s the longest in baseball history.
On Wednesday, 30,000 fans are expected to show up -- 7,000 people shy of a sellout.
The Red Sox base their attendance on the number of tickets sold and distributed, not actual attendance.
After a last-place finish in the American League last year, advance ticket sales were down.
