Sox open series with Yankees at Fenway Park
BOSTON (AP) -- The Red Sox open a series against the Yankees tonight at Fenway Park -- both hoping to cut their magic number from 8 to clinch the AL-East and dampen the Yankees' moves in the wildcard race.
John Lackey will start tonight for the Red Sox in the opener, with Hiroki Kuroda on the mound for New York. Boston lost 4-3 to Tampa Bay last night.
This weekend's series against the Yankees opens the final homestand of the regular season for the Red Sox. Boston will follow the Yankees series with three games apiece against Baltimore and Toronto before ending the regular season on the road. The Red Sox hold an 8 and 1/2 game lead in the AL-East over the Rays.
