Sox and Tigers fans ready for ALCS showdown
BOSTON (WHDH) -- The ALCS matchup is more than a showdown between the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers; it pairs two cities with a long history, both past and present.
The Tigers finish off the A’s with a big catch Thursday night to pave their way to Boston for a matchup with the Red Sox.
Tiger’s fans were already prowling around Fenway Friday afternoon, pumped up and ready to go.
“We got the best hitter in baseball. Can't lose,” said Kevin Curry, Detroit tigers fan.
“Sox all the way, no question. They have a better team them are a team. They are all together,” said Kevin Lyons, Red Sox fan.
“I’ll wear my lucky jeans and jacket and everything else that's lucky,” said Woody Tanger, Red Sox fan
One Sox fan living in Detroit, was scouting the Tigers all summer long. She says with Tiger's big hitter Miguel Cabrera injured, Detroit doesn't stand a chance.
Mayor Tom Menino is also getting in on the post season hype. In August he apologized after saying he would “blow up” the Motor City and start all over. Now he said he wouldn't mind catching a game in Detroit with that city's mayor.
“I might go out there and see one of the games; I would love to do that. Maybe I will invite the mayor out here to see our city and see great things we have going here,” Menino said.
Menino also said no mayor can top his sports record.
“Under my watch I had 10 world championships. That's the most anybody has ever had,” the mayor said.
Menino also said he is still thinking about exactly what type of wager he would like to make with Detroit's Mayor Dave Bing.
