John Lackey to take the mound in Game 3 vs. Tigers
BOSTON (WHDH) -- The Boston Red Sox are gearing up for game three against the Detroit Tigers. The action starts at 4:07 Tuesday afternoon.
The team is hoping to tap into the intensity of game 2 as the sox face one of the tigers' best pitchers in Game 3.
Players hope their bats stay hot as they try to take the series lead. The team traveled and held light workouts and said the off day gives both teams time to regroup.
“I’m sure the fans will come out loud tomorrow and we're going to have to make sure we pick it up from the get go,” said Red Sox catcher David Ross.
It will be John Lackey taking the mound for the Sox, who will face Detroit's ace Justin Verlander. Boston only saw the former Cy Young Award winner once during the regular season. Detroit won that game.
“It’s tough on everybody. We'll try to find a way to have quality of bats and get some runs on the board,” said Dustin Pedroia, Red Sox second baseman.
“He throws all his pitches for strikes and doesn't throw much over the middle of the plate. Same with Scherzer, and all their starters.”
Boston hopes the momentum from Game 2 will keep them on top.
“Good things happen with momentum,” said Ross.
Red Sox fans - if you didn't learn anything from Game 2 - make sure you watch all 9 innings. Players hope it doesn't have to come down to a walk-off in the 9th every game.
