Ortiz the only remaing Sox player from '04
BOSTON (WHDH) -- When the Red Sox played the Cardinals in the 2004 World series both teams looked very different. In fact, only one player from each roster that year remains on their team now.
For the Red Sox the experience comes from designated hitter David Ortiz.
Ortiz came up big for the Sox in the ALCS with a grand-slam to tie game two on the way to the win.
“He’s a legend in this city. He’s up there on the Mount Rushmore of Boston sports,” Sox fan Ken Lague said.
Although when the Sox play in St. Louis Ortiz may be out of the lineup because National League rules dictate that the pitcher must hit.
In the St. Louis dugout the only player remaining from nine years ago is catcher Yadier Molina.
