Sox preparing for 'heavyweight bout' in World Series
BOSTON (WHDH) -- The American League Champion Boston Red Sox stayed loose on Monday by telling a few jokes during their workouts and press conferences, but they say they haven’t reached their goal yet.
"It's something that we set out to do in spring training; we accomplished that, but we're not just happy to be here. We want to win this thing, and we're going to go out there in game one and try to execute as best as possible and see what happens,” first baseman Mike Napoli said.
Other players are saying that this isn’t destiny. They’ve played the best and their facing off with the best.
"There's no 'Cinderella story'in the World Series. So, regardless of what team we drew, and we're fortunate enough to go, it's going to be a heavyweight bout,” outfielder Jonny Gomes said.
St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny had a similar outlook on the situation.
“Very good team, just like we saw in '04. That was a hot team at the time, and they're pretty hot right now, doing a lot of things right. But once again, so are we,” Matheny said.
