Family thankful for Napoli's heartfelt donation
BOSTON (WHDH) -- Mike Napoli has been described on the field as clutch by many fans, but it’s what he is doing off the field that has one family calling him a hero.
When Lacey Warner was born in West Virginia 16 years ago she was diagnosed with a heart defect.
In April Lacey’s dad Steve was running in the Boston Marathon and they asked Napoli for a donation, but he came through bigger than they would have expected.
“It’s pretty crazy. She’s been through a lot of surgeries and I like to help out any way I can,” the Red Sox first baseman said.
Napoli donated the $4,000 Steve needed and then got them tickets to game 6 of the ALCS where they watched the Sox clinch their spot in the World Series.
Lacey and her parents haven’t been able to meet Napoli yet, but she wears his shirt with pride.
