Lackey provides relief for Sox
St. Louis -- In a rare relief appearance, John Lackey got three big outs to help the Red Sox win Game 4 and tie the World Series at two games apiece.
With Clay Buchholz hurting, almost every Sox pitcher knew they could be called apon in the most important game of the season.
Scheduled Game 6 starter John Lackey was no exception and he was up to the challenge.
Lackey came in in the 8th inning for his first relief appearance in 9 years. He overcame a two base throwing error by rookie 3rd baseman Xander Bogaerts and a wild pitch.
With a runner on 3rd he got John Jay to pop out and David Freese to ground out.
