BOSTON (WHDH) -- David Ortiz was placed on the 15-day disabled list after injuring his Achilles tendon.
An MRI revealed that right Achilles tendon had no rupture or tear. Ortiz got a second opinion in Miami, which called for Big Papi to rest the heel for at least a week. The Red Sox then placed Ortiz on the 15-day disabled list.
Ortiz injured his Achilles on Monday night when he rounded second base on Adrian Gonzalez’s home run. Ortiz said he felt worse and sorer Tuesday than he did after Monday’s game. He wore a walking boot in the clubhouse.
Bobby Valentine said he expects to be without his designated hitter for 10-14 days.
Ortiz’s injury continues a string of bad luck for the Red Sox -- Papi is the 22 Red Sox player this season to spend time on the disabled list.
