BOSTON (WHDH) -- It didn't take long for Friday night’s rumors to reach the fans over at Fenway.
Josh Beckett has clearly worn out his welcome among the Fenway faithful.
“Beckett? He's got to go. He's a distraction in the clubhouse,” said one fan.
“I don't think he's been performing as well as he should be,” another sox fan said.
The World Series winner and staple of the Sox starting staff is part of the proposed blockbuster trade to the dodgers. Fans said it's long overdue.
“What it comes down to is dumping a bunch of money and dumping a lot of bad attitudes,” said one man.
And you know it's bad when the guy in the Beckett jersey even wants him off the team.
“As much as I loved Beckett a couple years ago, I think it's time to move on, I think it's best for everybody,” said a man wearing a Beckett jersey.
As for Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez -- two guys acquired in the same off-season just a year and a half ago -- fans seemed torn.
“I want to keep Crawford. I think he’s a good player. Gonzalez I think is a great player,” one fan said.
Others actually want to see more Sox players go.
“Can we get rid of Lackey too, can we get rid of that fat load?” one fan asked.
Most fans think the purported trade means the Red Sox are throwing in the towel for this season -- but they also believe dumping a quarter-billion dollars in payroll could work out down the line.
“At least it shows the fans there's hope for the next year...No one’s happy here…I’ve worked here 22 years and I refuse to wear Red Sox gear,” one man said.
