Schilling company items on auction block in Md.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Items once owned by former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling's failed video game company have been sold off at the first of two auctions.

Computers, speaker systems and even a pool table that formerly belonged to Rhode Island-based 38 Studios were on the auction block Tuesday in Timonium, Md. The Maryland auction site was the one-time headquarters of Big Huge Games, which 38 Studios acquired 2009.

A second auction is planned next week at the firm's former Providence headquarters. Rhode Island lured the company from Massachusetts with a $75 million loan guarantee. It filed for bankruptcy in June.

Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee (CHAY'-fee) says every penny helps but that he's not expecting the auctions to make much of a dent in what the state stands to lose.
