BOSTON (WHDH) -- Red Sox fans appeared unanimously relieved when manager, Bobby Valentine, was fired, but they weighed in with mixed reviews on his replacement, John Farrell.

"I like it. He has experience. Knows Cherington. Good fit. I think he's going to be here couple of years until we can get Varitek ready,” said Tim Howlett.

"I think it's gonna be great. It's gonna be a huge improvement over Bobby V, it'll be great for the pitching staff having our old pitching coach back,” said Mike Wesolowski.

A lot of Boston fans said the sight of Farrell in a Red Sox uniform again is no surprise.

"Why not? He's the perfect fit. He was great while he was here, he was on the greatest teams we've seen in recent history,” said Nate Knight.

One fan felt the decision is not what the Sox need to move forward.

“I just think they’re keeping it in house with John Farrell having been here before and they wanted the same guy back again. It just seems like they could have gone external. Brad Ausmus would have been a better selection for me. So, I would have liked to see them go external and start anew,” said Kevin Astle.
