CAIRO (AP) -- Riot police have been firing tear gas to disperse dozens of rock-throwing demonstrators outside a courthouse in Alexandria, Egypt.

Inside, the city's ex-security director and other officers are on trial for the killing of protesters during Egypt's 2011 uprising.

But, relatives of the dead say they have little confidence in the justice system or police investigations. The 16-year-old son of one man shot dead in clashes outside an Alexandria police station says, "It is one long chain of corruption."

Since Hosni Mubarak (HOHS'-nee moo-BAH'-rahk) was deposed two years ago, nearly 100 police officers have been brought to trial on charges of killing and wounding protesters. But all have been acquitted or received suspended sentences. That's sent thousands of protesters into the streets over the past two years, demanding retribution.
