Baseball cap stirs dispute in Venezuela race
CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) -- Venezuelan presidential candidate Henrique Capriles is challenging electoral authorities over his use of a baseball cap emblazoned with the colors of the country's flag.
Officials of the National Electoral Council have said they believe Capriles' use of the yellow, blue and red cap while campaigning violates regulations that prohibit the use of the flag's colors in electoral propaganda.
Council's vice president Sandra Oblitas has said that election authorities have warned Capriles' campaign multiple times about the hat. Still, the opposition leader sported the cap during a campaign rally Friday.
In a message on Twitter, he dismisses the calls by electoral officials saying that while Venezuela is plagued with murders, in his words, "the issue for the government is the cap I wear."
