We've Been Here Before
Posted by Pete Bouchard
Little deja vu today? Feel like you've been in this weather situation before (wet start to workweek)?
You're not paranoid or delusional. We were in this same boat last week (albeit a little drier on Monday). And the finish to the week will be the same - brighter, sunnier. Heck, if the weekend weather holds, we could again be near 80 both Saturday and Sunday (still not ready to guarantee anything...sea breeze and clouds could play spoiler).
So you're probably thinking the pattern still hasn't changed. Well, it has, but we're stuck in a moment...that we can't get out of (sorry, had to finish the song lyrics). As we head into summer, the weather pattern slows down. Sometimes, when fronts/storms stall, they stall for days. That's the case this week. We'll just have to wait for the kick in the pants to push things along on Thursday.
The greatest chance of heavy rain will be in Western Massachusetts during the next two days. With the front stalled almost directly over the Connecticut River Valley, the road is cleared and paved for the rain to play Follow the Leader. In upwards of 2-3 inches of additional water may fall there! For us, I expect nearly another inch of rain the next two days.
Try and stay dry.

Summer officially starts Friday at 1:04 A.M., and Mother Nature's sending in summer weather for us just in time. Mid to late June averages highs near 80 degrees, and we'll be there temperature-wise over the next few days. Mostly dry too!

That's A Wrap--I Think

I hope I'm not jinxing us with this statement.."The recent wet pattern is over....onto sunshine & a more summer- like pattern.." The last time someone from 7 weather called a pattern change too soon we got a blizzard and 3 subsequent nor'easters (looking at you Pete!!--LOL). We don't have to worry about any blizzards or nor'easters but one never knows in the new world order.

If you were caught in those 'cloudbursts' today, you had more than you could handle in the rain department. Torrents fell in a short amount of time - what we deem 'flash flooding' in the weather biz. Since it happens suddenly, the National Weather Service has adopted the acronym TADD:

Bam. Pow! Those were some nasty storms last evening with some towns in metrowest & the city itself blasted with locally heavy rain, hail, lightning and strong wind gusts. A cool front is the culprit and that front will linger across the region again today. That means another round of some scattered showers & t-storms likely.
