Steamy Weather's Return
Posted by Pete Bouchard
Hard to find anything to fuss over with this weather pattern. However...with hotter temps and some humidity sprinkled in, I'm sure someone will have an axe to grind with Mother Nature in the days ahead.
And we might have an opportunity to make the gardeners happy too. Next week is a little bit wetter - not to the degree that we'll wash out any one day, however. It's just that we'll be prone to pop-up storms. Sure, it's a pattern change of sorts; one that puts us in the cross hairs of SLOW moving storms with TORRENTS of rain.
And it's important to note this milestone. We've seen the blazing sun and we've felt the relief of passing cool fronts. But now we're deep into summer, and tropical air has taken command of most of the country east of the Mississippi, leaving us vulnerable to juicy storms. Best chance for getting hit by one of these "gully washers" is Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Friday. (Timing is tentative, so don't cancel plans yet.)
Anyway, back to the heat. Steamy air will again combine with the jump in temperatures to bring us a stretch of hot weather that will fall one day short of a heat wave. If there's any saving grace in our "wetter pattern" next week, it's that the clouds and storms will keep us sub-90. Unfortunately, there's no give on the humidity: it stays high throughout the entire week.
Be well.

Wild temperatures yesterday---from the 80s down into the low 60s in just an hour AND some heavy duty thunderstorms. The reason was a cool front that dropped in from Maine. That front is in western New England this morning and it's a chameleon as it will become a warm front and try to warm things back up during the day.

What a day! Breakneck temperature swings, thunder, tornadoes in Western Mass....and we're still in late May!

More Warmth

You have another warm & humid day with many towns repeating yesterday's weather. That means we start with clouds & fog for a bit before hazy sun gets going. That hazy sunshine will boost temps up into the low 80s by early to mid afternoon across much of the region. At the same time a cool front will begin dropping out of Maine (backdoor front) which will quickly send temps from the 70s/80s down into the 50s/60s by late afternoon & evening. Also, when this front rams into the warmth & humidity it will spark a few showers & thunderstorms during the afternoon.

Summ-ah!

With the snap of the fingers we were thrown into summer this afternoon. Heat, humidity, A/C and shorts - with a hazy sun to boot. But with the sea breeze knocking back the temperatures (and bringing in a round of downpours this evening), there are changes afoot.
