Summer Rolls On
Posted by Pete Bouchard
Heat got a hold of us this afternoon. Highs soared to the low 90s from Somerville/Medford out to Brookline. There were also 90 degree temps in Orange and Fitchburg. Otherwise, most everyone hit upper 80s - with 89 being the high temp of choice for MANY communities.
If you're one of those towns/cities feeling like you missed out on the fun, fret not. There are several more opportunities in the days ahead. Let's see....tomorrow, Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. And we won't be lacking in the sticky air department either. Humidity will hold sway as dewpoint temperatures will stay in the mid/upper 60s. In fact, there's very little relief until we hit the middle or latter half of the week.
Thunderstorms? Yep, they'll get more "air time" in the week ahead. Best chance for getting hit seems to be on Sunday - although we're not talking washout here. It's important to stress that these storms will have a penchant for making rain too. If you're caught under one, the gutters and storm drains will flow - bigtime. What's more is when the sun comes back out. Prepare for a steam bath.
Yep, we're knee-deep in summer here folks. Stay cool and soak it in....
...'cause you know it won't last 'round here.

Wild temperatures yesterday---from the 80s down into the low 60s in just an hour AND some heavy duty thunderstorms. The reason was a cool front that dropped in from Maine. That front is in western New England this morning and it's a chameleon as it will become a warm front and try to warm things back up during the day.

What a day! Breakneck temperature swings, thunder, tornadoes in Western Mass....and we're still in late May!

More Warmth

You have another warm & humid day with many towns repeating yesterday's weather. That means we start with clouds & fog for a bit before hazy sun gets going. That hazy sunshine will boost temps up into the low 80s by early to mid afternoon across much of the region. At the same time a cool front will begin dropping out of Maine (backdoor front) which will quickly send temps from the 70s/80s down into the 50s/60s by late afternoon & evening. Also, when this front rams into the warmth & humidity it will spark a few showers & thunderstorms during the afternoon.

Summ-ah!

With the snap of the fingers we were thrown into summer this afternoon. Heat, humidity, A/C and shorts - with a hazy sun to boot. But with the sea breeze knocking back the temperatures (and bringing in a round of downpours this evening), there are changes afoot.
