Rain Sneaks In

Clouds this afternoon had that look of rain, but not everyone's going to get a drink.
The weather system that's been more about drama than water has arrived. No, I didn't think it would ever make it here, and yes, I'd better bone up on my coastal storms again before winter arrives.
I'll give you this though. This weather system was born out over the ocean, where weather data is sparse and the weather models have a hard time pinpointing storm centers. Add to that the fact that there will be a VERY sharp cutoff to the precipitation, and you have the makings of a difficult forecast.
Rain is sweeping up from the Cape/Islands this evening. We're watching an arm of moderate rain pivoting north and west through New Bedford, Wareham, and Carver. This is the part of the storm that will deliver the most rain to Greater Boston tonight. Where does it stop? I'm saying between I-495 and I-128. West of that, you'll stay dry. East of that, showers will threaten...although the heaviest rain should stay along the South Shore and out to the Cape/Islands.
We're back to summer tomorrow. Pop-up storm is possible in the afternoon as the heat builds. Then on Thursday, we're back where we started...another 'spin-up' low will sail off Cape. Could sour your afternoon beach plans, but it's just one day...
...because the heat will surge back for the weekend.
