Clouds, Clouds Everywhere
Posted by Jeremy Reiner
Somehow we fell into a cloudy rut lately. No different today is clouds were all over the place and that did a number on the afternoon temps yet again. To add insult to injury, we had a feisty northeast wind for much of the day making it feel even cooler, more like November actually.
As we look into midweek, clouds are back at it tomorrow but the wind direction will be different. Huge! A southwest wind will prevail for the day and that will boost temps into the low 60s---if we see some sunshine, you can add on another couple degrees--plan on temps between 60-65 tomorrow. Now, that southwest wind will also bring the threat of some showers after 3pm--especially north & west of Boston. The reason for the showers is a cool front moving through the area.
This front is weak as temps on Thursday will still reach the low 60s. Another front will take aim on New England during the day Friday & that front has a mean streak. Friday will feature blustery & chilly conditions develop by afternoon & evening setting the stage for widespread frost (Excluding Boston) early Saturday morning. More on that tomorrow.

Rain and drizzle continues tonight as temperatures drop into the mid 30s to 40 degrees. Any burst of heavier precip drags down colder air, and elevations above 1000 feet in northern Worcester County or southwester NH see wet snow mixing in overnight. No shovels or plows needed for us, but it is a sure sign how cold the atmosphere is for late May. As of this writing, Mt. Mansfield in VT has picked up 7.5" of snow and Whiteface Mtn. in NY has picked up 18"!

So it's the unofficial start of summer this weekend and officially, the average high this time of year hits 70 degrees. So you'd think we have a good shot at BBQ weather right? Not much of a chance today with highs reaching near 50 this morning, only to fall back into the low to mid 40s this afternoon as a cold rain settles in.
