Oh, Hello Winter

Posted by Chris Lambert

If the Christmas music, the 3 ring circus at the mall, or eating, drinking, eating and drinking at holiday parties still doesn't make it feel like winter is around the corner...  Mother Nature will.

Overall, it's not a bad start to the weekend. Sure, we have a lot of clouds around but temps are running in the mid 40s early this Saturday morning.  Unfortunately, that's where temps stick through midday as a west to northwest wind ushers in a cooler air mass, not allowing temps to warm up.  That wind will be active, gusting at times near 30mph, dropping wind chill factors into the upper 20s and 30s mid to late afternoon.

Tonight, temps slide back into the 20s, and with a wind continuing to crank, wind chill factors drop into the teens!

Tomorrow afternoon is a breezy one with temps running near 40 degrees and wind chills still in the upper 20s and lower 30s.

So what's this about snow?  Yes, it is possible Tuesday afternoon-Wednesday morning timeframe.   Too early to throw out numbers because the track of the storm will depend on how much, and who may even see more rain drops than snowflakes.  Remember, lot's of pieces to the puzzle have to come together on this one, and models showing it 4-5days out doesn't mean the storm's a lock.  If the storm doesn't gather steam until offshore, any precip we get would be light.

One thing that I am confident in though, is that no matter what the track of the storm, as it pulls away from the east coast, a strong northwest flow behind it ushers it cold air.  Highs struggle to get out of the 30s to end the week.  So even if the storm doesn't drop a white blanket, it'll feel like winter.

Have a good weekend!

Wild & Wacky

Wild temperatures yesterday---from the 80s down into the low 60s in just an hour AND some heavy duty thunderstorms. The reason was a cool front that dropped in from Maine. That front is in western New England this morning and it's a chameleon as it will become a warm front and try to warm things back up during the day.

More Warmth

Posted by Jeremy Reiner

You have another warm & humid day with many towns repeating yesterday's weather. That means we start with clouds & fog for a bit before hazy sun gets going. That hazy sunshine will boost temps up into the low 80s by early to mid afternoon across much of the region. At the same time a cool front will begin dropping out of Maine (backdoor front) which will quickly send temps from the 70s/80s down into the 50s/60s by late afternoon & evening. Also, when this front rams into the warmth & humidity it will spark a few showers & thunderstorms during the afternoon.

Summ-ah!

With the snap of the fingers we were thrown into summer this afternoon. Heat, humidity, A/C and shorts - with a hazy sun to boot. But with the sea breeze knocking back the temperatures (and bringing in a round of downpours this evening), there are changes afoot.
