Snow? No
Posted by Pete Bouchard
Messy afternoon turns into a messy night. The cold doesn't seem to want to budge out there, even as the air warms the middle atmosphere. The end result? Ice. Up to a quarter inch is possible Metro West and out around Worcester. Lots of scraping expected by morning.
Also expected: slowly rising temperatures. For that reason, I think the icing will have stopped by the morning commute. Nonetheless, it will be slippery as the ice from the overnight hours will still be around.
Won't have to worry about snow, ice or subfreezing temperatures in the long range. We're all about the rain in the next two storms. What about the block in Greenland? The much-ballyhooed pattern change? Well, it's all there, but the block is in the wrong spot, and the pattern did change...just another version of warmer than normal. I tell ya, I'm about ready to throw in the towel on snow this winter.
Well, almost. There's always early February...climatologically the snowiest (with the exception of last year) part of the winter season.
After all the heartbreak from last week, make this a good week.

Quite a few clouds in the sky at times this afternoon, but the atmosphere lacked ample moisture to produce showers, so we made out just fine with temps near 70. Even the coast made it well into the 60s before the onshore wind knocked temps back.

Pretty Good Weekend Overall

Sure, it's a cool start with many of the suburbs down into the upper 30s and lower 40s, but we'll warm up quickly through the day as that sun helps us out.

Strong Finish

An overall cooler day, but also a great end to the workweek as highs neared 70, low humidity continued and plenty of sunshine dominated the skies. Now all we need is this to continue through the weekend right?

Still Good

How about yesterday? The 82 in Boston matched the warmest temp we've had since September 13th. Of course, with a wind gusting past 30mph and relative humidity near 18%, it certainly didn't feel oppressive.
