So You're Telling Me There's A Chance?
Posted by Chris Lambert
Lloyd Christmas would be proud I have the opportunity to use his quote in my blog.... but, it is true. I'm telling you there's a chance for a white Christmas, and it's better than Lloyd's 1 in a million odds.
Before we get to that, let's talk about the weekend. Lot's of last minute shopping is left this weekend and it looks like the weather turns out just fine for that. Once and a while, a few flurries fall from the sky, but they won't amount to much. In fact, across SE Mass, there's a better chance that sprinkles mix in more than flakes. The wind picks up today as well, gusting 40-45mph, and because of that, a wind advisory is in place.
Sunday looks a bit brighter, but still breezy and cool with temps running in the middle to upper 30s.
Christmas Eve is quiet too, with fading sunshine late in the day with highs in the 30s.
Christmas Eve evening continues to be dry through midnight, but after that... all bets are off as light snow starts flying. That snow drops through Christmas morning and tapers off Christmas afternoon. Through the southern end of SE Mass/Buzzards Bay/Cape/Islands, it may be rain, pending the track of the low. Overall, I'm not expecting a big storm, but one that could blanket much of southern New England with 2-4" of snow is certainly plausible at this point. We only need 1" on the ground for an official white Christmas, so the level of optimism on that is rising.
We may have bigger fish to fry Wednesday night and Thursday as a storm rides up the eastern United States (nor'easter in the works?). This one has the potential for at least a half a foot of snow where it's all snow, so it bears watching.
Plenty of time to track that... Until then, enjoy the weekend and good luck getting great last minute deals on gifts!

That's A Wrap--I Think

I hope I'm not jinxing us with this statement.."The recent wet pattern is over....onto sunshine & a more summer- like pattern.." The last time someone from 7 weather called a pattern change too soon we got a blizzard and 3 subsequent nor'easters (looking at you Pete!!--LOL). We don't have to worry about any blizzards or nor'easters but one never knows in the new world order.

If you were caught in those 'cloudbursts' today, you had more than you could handle in the rain department. Torrents fell in a short amount of time - what we deem 'flash flooding' in the weather biz. Since it happens suddenly, the National Weather Service has adopted the acronym TADD:

Bam. Pow! Those were some nasty storms last evening with some towns in metrowest & the city itself blasted with locally heavy rain, hail, lightning and strong wind gusts. A cool front is the culprit and that front will linger across the region again today. That means another round of some scattered showers & t-storms likely.

Thunderous Start to Workweek

Heat and a bit of humidity fed a strong - and sometimes severe - line of thunderstorms today. By the time the dinner hour rolled around (6pm-ish), the storms had consolidated into a line. Everyone got a drink of water and a big drop in temperatures - some falling nearly 20 degrees in minutes!
