Ho Ho Ho

While it's fairly common to have snow on the ground around these parts on Christmas morning (Sorry Cape Cod, maybe not for you) it is somewhat uncommon for it to actually be snowing on Christmas morning. It will be snowing tomorrow morning and thankfully for those of us that have to work/travel it will not be a major snowstorm---rather, a Johnny Mathis/Andy Williams type snowfall----light, fluffy & pretty.
It actually starts just after midnight in the Worcester hills & reaches metro Boston/ north shore around 5am--bout the time the jolly fat man bounces to the west coast! Along the south shore & out onto the Cape/Islands it will be in the form of light rain for much of the morning but as the entire system is departing tomorrow afternoon it will even end as some flurries down toward Plymouth & Bourne. Most towns pick up a coating to an inch---some isolated 2" amounts are likely.
Wednesday is dry for most of the day with clouds owning much of the sky for most of the day. Those clouds will be in advance of a bigger (badder) storm that will arrive by mid evening. This storm will start (briefly for Boston-south) as snow, then change to rain by the end of the storm on Thursday afternoon. The area between the MA Pike & Rt 2 will be a struggle for the rain to takeover Thursday morning, so plan on several hours of sleet/freezing rain before changing over to rain late Thursday morning. Along & north of Rt2 it will be mostly snow late Wednesday & into Thursday. All in all, a sloppy day for Thursday.
More on that storm tomorrow night.
Merry Christmas!

Strong Finish

An overall cooler day, but also a great end to the workweek as highs neared 70, low humidity continued and plenty of sunshine dominated the skies. Now all we need is this to continue through the weekend right?

Still Good

How about yesterday? The 82 in Boston matched the warmest temp we've had since September 13th. Of course, with a wind gusting past 30mph and relative humidity near 18%, it certainly didn't feel oppressive.

Top 10?

Lower 80s, low humidity and sunshine... would you call it a top 10 kind of day? Only complaint, other than it not being the weekend, is maybe the wind was a bit much? It certainly was gusty, at times blowing 30-35mph. No sea breeze will move inland with a strong west wind like that.

September 14th, 2012. That's the last time Boston had a high temp of 80 (81 that day)--nearly 8 months ago. That streak should end today as yesterday's much advertised warm front did its thing, leaving us with a nice warm bubble of air today. I think metro Boston reaches the low 80s under partly to mostly sunny skies. One reason for the warmth is it's leftover super heat from the Midwest and also a fiesty west wind 10-20mph keeping that chilly ocean air at bay. All in all, a great late spring/early summer day.
