Recovering

Posted by Jeremy Reiner

Happy New Year! There are many ways & tricks to recovering from last night's fun....exercising, sleeping, watching movies or eating---heck, even all of the above. Our temperatures will see a slow recovery over the next several days as arctic air takes hold. It's actually not too bad right now with many towns spending the overnight hours in the low 30s! That's a nice jump off point for any morning in January, temperatures that would get us to the 40s by afternoon. Sadly, there are clouds out there and those clouds are tied to an arctic front that will blast through here later today. That arctic air will take its time so many towns can reach the upper 30s by afternoon. Decent winter day for skiing, sledding, ice skating or just chillaxin on the sofa.

Tomorrow it's back to work, school and the grind. It's also back to some bitterly cold air with most towns starting Wednesday in the single numbers! The sun will be outside but this time of year that sunshine is about as strong as a flashlight so look for temps to crawl into the upper 20s by afternoon. More of the same weather and temperature expected on Thursday. #Brrr

The upshot to all this arctic air is that it puts an end to our recent storminess. Arctic air will shove that storm track way down into Carolina for the next several days keeping this quiet around these parts.

Whatever it is you're looking for in 2013, I hope you find it.

Saved by The Sea Breeze

Although my forecast was busted today, there was one good thing that came out of it.

Stability.

That gray overcast that hung over the eastern half of the Commonwealth provided a stablizing influence to our atmosphere. The cool air blowing in from the ocean kept the temperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s all the way back to Metrowest. While that makes for lousy short-and-t-shirt weather, it is poison to thunderstorms.

Wild & Wacky

Wild temperatures yesterday---from the 80s down into the low 60s in just an hour AND some heavy duty thunderstorms. The reason was a cool front that dropped in from Maine. That front is in western New England this morning and it's a chameleon as it will become a warm front and try to warm things back up during the day.

What a day! Breakneck temperature swings, thunder, tornadoes in Western Mass....and we're still in late May!

More Warmth

Posted by Jeremy Reiner

You have another warm & humid day with many towns repeating yesterday's weather. That means we start with clouds & fog for a bit before hazy sun gets going. That hazy sunshine will boost temps up into the low 80s by early to mid afternoon across much of the region. At the same time a cool front will begin dropping out of Maine (backdoor front) which will quickly send temps from the 70s/80s down into the 50s/60s by late afternoon & evening. Also, when this front rams into the warmth & humidity it will spark a few showers & thunderstorms during the afternoon.
